Knowledge Creation and Emotional Intelligence

Posted on June 5, 2013
The relationship between know-how, knowledge creation and emotional intelligence became apparent recently when I recently did a workshop on this subject with colleagues. As ‘know-how’ delves into self-awareness so too does emotional intelligence! An area to be unpacked! The knowledge worker and the leader both need self-awareness to be effective and resonant leaders so it seems. Goleman, Boyaztiz and McKee talk about resonant leadership. To be resonant of course we need to be in touch with our own feelings. In terms of Personal Knowledge Capital knowledge awareness leads to the development of the L.O.F.T model (Listening, Observing, Feeling and Thinking) as part of SECI model in knowledge creation. The ‘F’ in the Loft is for feelings. It is important to listen and be aware of our own feelings in order to understand self. The overlap continues. Knowledge creation can and is part of personal knowledge management and we need to be discussing this area just like the emotional intelligence and positivity psychologists. Time for knowledge creation to move forward!
Last week’s workshop on ‘The Success Factor for Emotional Intelligence’ here in the North was a great success. Linking aspects of EI with leadership and personal knowledge capital was my order of the day. EI4 Change and Act Positive and Knowledge Futures came together to deliver an interactive yet professional day highlighting the deep and meaningful aspects of EI for leaders. Working with Robin and Doug was breath-taking, whilst Katherine focused on acting out various scenarios which resulted in much laughter from the participants. But really great. Robin Hill will be presenting at Harvard Business School in June, and is undoubtedly the UK’s leading expert on Emotional Intelligence.
